In Loving Memory of Kerry Michael McClure

Calla lily picKerry Michael McClure passed peacefully over Jordan and into God’s Kingdom on August 9, 2017. He died in his sleep at the age of 65, at his home in Baton Rouge. Mike was born May 7, 1952 in Abilene, Texas, the first child of Ramona and Bill McClure, former Track and Field coach and Assistant Athletic Director at LSU.  In Abilene, Mike played high school basketball and attended Abilene Christian College. From 1986-1996, Mike helped his father coach cross country and track and field at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, where he made many friends. After retirement, Mike relocated to Baton Rouge and took care of his father until Bill’s death in 2008. A loving son and brother, Mike will be missed by his family and friends, but is in a better place now with both his parents. He is survived by sisters Terry McClure of Baton Rouge and Kate Bearden of Barnwell, South Carolina; her husband Keith, and their children Stephanie, Sabrina, and Kyle; also by brothers Mitch McClure, Tim McClure, and his wife Sherri, all of Baton Rouge. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 19, at Goodwood Blvd. Church of Christ in Baton Rouge, where Mike was a long time member. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Mrs. Coach Scholarship” fund (named for his mother, Ramona) to benefit  members of the women’s track and field team at Samford University.
