Crespo, Luis photo1Luis Alberto Crespo was born on February 8, 1924, in Santiago, Cuba and passed away peacefully on May 11, 2017, in Baton Rouge, where he resided since 1962. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Iraida, and brother, Rogelio Crespo. Survived by his only son, Luis, daughter in law, Kimberly, prized granddaughter, Sherrard, numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friends at his church and the YMCA. He was a longtime valued employee in the advertising department at CMQ in Havana, prior to fleeing communist dictatorship in Cuba. He and is family never went on the public dole, as he set temporary roots in Miami, where he washed dishes, sold ice cream, and did whatever was necessary to support his family. Moving to Baton Rouge in 1962, he rebuilt his career working at Ormet as a shipping agent until his retirement. He was very proud to become an American citizen and realized that hard work and perseverance allows anyone to achieve the American Dream. He was a long-time member of the YMCA, and the First United Methodist Church, both of which he faithfully attended until a few months before his death. Visitation on Thursday, May 18, 2017, in the chapel at First United Methodist Church at 9:00 am with services to follow at 10 am. The family wishes to thank Audubon Hospice, Katina and Ashley with Home Instead, and a very very special thank you to his devoted friend, Deborah Todd, who provided loving care and kindness during his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home in Ruston, La. or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
