harvey-karl-cropped-resized-photoKarl Eikel Harvey died Tuesday, October 4, 2016. A lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, he was born August 5, 1933. Karl graduated from Tulane in 1958 with a master’s degree in architecture. He had a successful architecture practice for over 45 years, designing both commercial and residential buildings locally and nationally. In the latter part of his career he specialized in interior architecture mostly in the medical and hospitality sectors. Karl loved his church and his family dearly. He attended daily mass and faithfully served as cantor, Eucharistic Minister, lector, and Eucharistic Adorer at Our Lady of Mercy. Karl’s other love was the art of cuisine: cooking, sharing recipes, and frequenting local grocery shops. His most happy days were filled with all three: family, faith, and food. Additionally, Karl often enjoyed retreats at Manresa, visits to the beach, playing golf, and lunching with his buddies, Si and Kirk. Notably, Karl served on the first lay advisory board of St. Joseph’s Academy. He was especially proud to have secured the donation of the Academy’s first school buses driven by the Sisters of Saint Joseph, allowing the school to remain open and serve more students each year.  He is survived by his wife, Nelda Sanchez Harvey; daughters Lynn Harvey Ramos, her husband, Dion Ramos, Sarah Harvey Ogden, her husband, Michael Ogden, Beth Harvey Watkins, her husband, William Watkins, Jenny Sanchez Landreneau, her husband, John Landreneau; and sons Leo Marc Sanchez, his wife, Marcia Sanchez, Thomas Allen Sanchez, his wife, Karen Sanchez. Karl is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Allison Lea Ramos, Wesley Karl Ramos, Cason James Ramos, Katie Ogden Christensen, Andrew Downs Ogden, Brian Edward Ogden, Ella Corine Watkins, William Crawford Watkins, Isabelle Lee Watkins, Madeline Claire Sanchez, Mary Margaret Sanchez, and Sarah Catherine Waites, as well as his five cherished nieces and nephews. Karl was preceded in death by his father, Henry Brook Harvey Sr.; mother, Ethel Eikel Harvey; sister, Jimmy Lea Harvey Moles; and brother Henry Brook Harvey Jr. Services will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Ave.on Saturday, Oct. 8, with visitation at the church from 9:00 a.m. Followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church ‘Traditions for Tomorrow Fund’ or to Saint Joseph’s Academy Foundation, 3015 Broussard St. 70808.
