In Loving Memory of Alma “Ned” Carpenter

carpenter-alma-photoThe Lord our God, according to His perfect plan, called His daughter, Alma “Ned” Carpenter, home on September 28, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Carpenter, her brother, Forrest (Johnny) Carpenter, and four sisters (Totsie Watts, Billie Smith, Eva Mae Hausey, and Bobbie Bailey). She leaves behind a sister (Faye Joseph), a brother (Thomas “Trigger” Carpenter), and a multitude of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. She will live on in our hearts and in the stories we will remember (the good and the bad). Although she had no biological children, she raised a community of young people. Every child in the generation after hers and many of the children of the next generation can attest to baths, food, money, advice, or just a listening, non-judgmental ear. She lived a life of strong faith and that too she passed through the generations. She taught Sunday school at Blackwater United Methodist Church for 63 years. Her class was so devoted; they had the church name the Adult Education Building after her. She made strong ties with many of the pastors and kept them on their toes. She served faithfully on many of the church committees, with the United Methodist Women, and organized the Christmas presentation on several occasions. She was always fulfilling the needs of others. She changed our community with her tireless dedication to serving God and others. Christmas shopping began on the day after Christmas and went on all year long. Even with her very limited income, she shared her love with her family and the entire community. Her focus was on the people that others tended to overlook. Her mission was always to lift people up. She discerned and met their needs with her time and many home-cooked meals. She is dearly loved and painfully missed. We all look forward to our reunion when God calls us home. Ned will be laid to rest on September 30, 2016. Visitation will be held for her at 10:00 am with service at 11:00 am at Blackwater United Methodist Church. Burial in Blackwater Cemetery immediately following service. If you wish to honor her, please do so by contributing to any of the many funds at the church she cherished: Blackwater United Methodist Church, 10000 Blackwater Road, Central, LA 70714.  Arrangements by Church Funeral Services & Crematory, Baton Rouge 225-293-4174 www.churchfuneralservices.com
