Meyers, Melvin resized cropped photo“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.” Psalm 37:23   Melvin Ernest Myers was born on October 20, 1952, and passed away peacefully into the presence of Jesus Christ on Sunday April 24, 2016 at the age of 63 years due to complications from Melanoma and heart disease.  Melvin was a native of Denham Springs, LA. He was first and foremost a child of God and a born again Christian. He was a loving and selflessly devoted husband of his wife, Kay for 38 years. He was the owner of two successful businesses, Melvin’s Small Engine Repair and L & M Panels. He was a charter member and past Fire Chief of District Five Fire Department in Livingston Parish. Melvin was a mechanical genius. He loved thinking of mechanical ideas and projects, then designing and building them, having once successfully placed the engine of a Chevrolet Geo Metro care into a golf cart. He had a man cave long before the term grew to popularity, his first man cave was known as “10X10”. He loved spending time in his shops tinkering, dreaming, repairing and building. He was on of 800 Briggs and Stratton Master Mechanics worldwide. He enjoyed going out driving in the “old cars” and often remarked how the world seemed to slow down when he and Kay were out riding and that people who would not ordinarily be prone to wave and be friendly would eagerly do so when they were out in a classic car.  Melvin had a heart of gold. He loved all people and could bring a smile to anyone’s face with his kind spirit, constant humor and wit. His favorite music was the music of laughter. He was generous, decent and gentle; a true hero and role model to so many.  He is survived by beloved wife and best friend Kay Fink Myers and his loving and mischievous cat, Deacon, as well as his brother Malcolm Odom Myers and wife Brenda Carpenter Myers; sister Ann Leslie Myers; mother-in-law Thelma Lobdell Fink; brothers-in-law Kenneth G. Fink III, Glen Lobdell Fink and Lynn Raby Fink and wife Sharon Smith Fink; niece Emily Jewell Fink, and nephews Marcus Odom Myers and David Lyn Fink.  He is preceded in death by his parents Lelsie Odom Myers and Pearl Ernestine Allen Myers.  Pallbearers will be Jeff Byrd, Randy Forbes, Richard Miller Jr., Gary O’Neal, Cliff Smith and Larry Kelly. Honorary Pallbearers will be Richard Sutton, Cameron O’Neal, Brian Myers, Kenny Myers, Hayden Byrd, Conner Delatte, Mervin Fonenot and all the Breakfast Buddies and James Grill and Down Home Grill.  Visitation will begin at 9 am until service time at 12 noon on Wednesday at Amite Baptist Church, services will be conducted by Reverend Terry Booth. Interment will follow at Amite Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family would like to thank Dr. Ted Kemp, Dr. Gerald Miletello, Dr. Paul Waguespack, Dr. John Brantley and Dr. Jon Olson for their expertise and care over the past six and a half years.  Memorial donations preferred to The American Melanoma Foundation 8929 University Center Lane, Suite 202 LaJolla CA 92122 or The Shriners Hospital 2900 North Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607  Arrangements by Church Funeral Services of Livingston Parish 225-271-4574  “Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give you a Crown of life.” Revelation 2:10
